Have Mother of all ... phrases become cliches?

How about carboholics as a new word?

Hip hugger syndrone?

Botox for Life? (since the effects do not last very long)

Check my post on 1/29 too....
Hahahahahahhahahaha did I say Axel? As in axel rose? I thought that was the way it was written. Axis of.....sounds more like it. What a moron......I gotta look up axel and axis...stay tuned!!! (VBG)

I like "Axel of Weasels"...
I think if we look at the front page of any newspaper we should be able to come up with something pithy.(VBG) BTW, I also like "Before becoming a cliche"...

Hmmm, was that suposed to be Axis of Weasels? I liked it too when I saw the graphic.

TODAY'S TIP: Avoid Using Cliches

A cliche, by definition, lacks originality. It is trite and overused. It's the image (a boy and his dog) or the phrase (stubborn as a mule) that comes to mind. It's someone else's idea, and the more it's been used, the less power it has. Take a look at the following cliches; then spend some time thinking of more (there's a boat load of them) and don't ever write one of them again.

hungry as a bear
starved as a model

friendly as a pup chummy as a panda

dog-tired

the lion's share

a monkey on his back

the rat race

something fishy

crazy as a loon

cold as ice

pure as the driven snow

black as coal

blood red

crystal clear

turned on his heel

back in the saddle

rose to new heights

nipped in the bud

a faded dream

as far as the eye can see

from pillar to post

Cliches come easily. Original writing takes hard work. But don't give in. Challenge your imagination and linguistic powers.CliffsQuickReview Writing: Grammar, Usage, and Style, by Jean Eggenschwiler and Emily Biggs, pinpoints the writing tips you really need to know. Check it out.
